This short video shows the functioning of the Spitfire Histories replica chassis control unit for Spitfires in flight simulators.
The unit was adapted from Supermarine Aviation Works engineering drawings and is full scale. While the electronics are quite simple, an electro-optical switch activated by a paddle, the mechanical operation of the lever, the lever locking gates and the status indicator operation were a challenge to replicate.
The unit is 3D printed using PLA plastic and is the first element to be included on the right hand side cockpit wall. This will complete the simulator cockpit which already has the central control column and left hand cockpit engine controls, trim wheels and VHF radio RCU.
In the meantime development continues of the other elements that will be included in the right hand side of the cockpit.
